Gear

Minor League baseball players wear the same type of baseball gear that all other players throughout the game wear. Baseball cleats allow the player to gain better traction as they run the bases or play in the field. The baseball uniform has evolved over the years to become lightweight and provide a more comfortable fit. Players either wear their pants pulled down to cover their stirrup socks or expose them by pulling the pants legs up near their knees. The baseball jersey separates one team from the other. The team logos and names are an important and colorful part of the design of this shirt. Finally, the player is outfitted with a billed cap that also bears a team logo. Many teams alter their logos on a regular basis so that collectors of baseball memorabilia are always on the search for the latest design.

The player's equipment is considered to be just as an important part of their gear as their uniform. When on offense, the player has a wooden baseball bat that is usually made by companies such as Louisville Slugger or Mizuno. The team on defense takes the field with an assortment of gloves. The infielders tend to wear gloves that are smaller than the outfielders, with the notable exception of the first baseman and the catcher. The first baseman's mitt is much larger and designed to scoop up throws that may bounce or skid in the dirt. The catcher wears a full set of gear that is designed to protect him from injury from thrown and fouled baseballs.

The last and most important piece of baseball gear is the baseball itself. This leather covered sphere is designed to be easily thrown and caught. The seams on the ball also allow the pitcher to control the movement of the ball as it is pitched to the batter.
